About your guide
My name is Paulina,
I am a “big city child”, I am fascinated by languages and the diversity of cultures. A culturally vibrant city like Lisbon has something for everyone. It opens doors to worlds full of history, music, dance and culture. It offers space for communities, associations and backyards where the art, music and life of its inhabitants can take place.
It is in my interest to give visitors access to this world and at the same time to stand up for its preservation, so that Lisbon never loses its charm; This special feeling of feeling directly welcome in this city that unites different worlds and where there is room for everyone.
What we’ll do
Getting here I quickly and by total chance caught onto an awesome Portuguese concept called “associations”, a magic middle ground between charity and artist collective.
I joined one by total chance because I was looking for an artist studio and a friend of a friend pointed me in the direction of these crazy British guys. Since getting on board we’ve been throwing huge nights in our abandoned fishing warehouse that sits on the river-facing Lisbon, and it’s been such an exciting journey.
Inside the city there are heaps of these underground art collectives that run secret, local nightclubs and bars that you can only find if you know where they are or who runs them. I’d love to show some international travellers what the underbelly of Lisbon looks like – it’s like nothing I’ve ever seen!
We will be visiting the following associations:
Each association ask for a “donation” so that you can become a member, which allows you to go inside, so don’t frown if they ask you for €3 on entry.
If you want to see a side to a city very few tourists have ever seen, come with me! I really look forward to showing you.
All the best.
What else you should know
Prepare for smokey rooms and some crazy performances.
